Lucy Molinar is asked to Clarify the ‘Creation of New Universities’ to the Education Commission

The request comes after statements by Minister Lucy Molinar regarding the creation of three new universities. The National Assembly’s Education, Culture, and Sports Committee, chaired by Representative Jorge Bloise, summoned Education Minister Lucy Molinar pictured below.

The Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the National Assembly asked the Minister of Education and President of the National Council for University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama (Coneaupa), Lucy Molinar, to clarify the statements in which she affirmed that the organization approved three new universities.  The request stems from an interview given by Molinar to TVN Noticias on May 19, in which she indicated that three new universities had been approved during a recent Coneaupa meeting. The “creation of three new universities in Panama” refers to the accreditation of three private universities—Hosanna, Hispanoamericana, and Iberoamericana—by the National Council for University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama (CONEAUPA). Each institution received five-year institutional accreditation.

The Recent Developments Involve Several Key Aspects:

  • The Acreditations: The official resolutions certifying their accreditation status were formally published in the Official Gazette
  • Legislative Action: The Education, Culture, and Sports Commission of the Asamblea Nacional requested Minister of Education and CONEAUPA President Lucy Molinar to formally clarify statements she made in a TVN Noticias interview regarding the status and approval of these institutions.
  • Transparency: The legislative commission sought specific details on the evaluation processes utilized for these institutions amid growing public interest.
