Our Goal is to Achieve Free and Transparent Elections in Venezuela: María Corina Machado

María Corina Machado’s core objective is to dismantle the former regime, restore the rule of law, and hold new, transparent, and internationally supervised democratic elections to legitimize Venezuela’s future. Following the ouster of Nicolás Maduro, Machado—the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize—is working alongside international allies to stabilize the country. Here are the key pillars of her current strategy and vision for Venezuela:

  • Swift New Elections: She estimates that a fully transparent election with secure manual voting can be organized and executed in about seven to nine months after political decisions are finalized and a new electoral council is appointed.
  • Leveraging Previous Mandates: Machado maintains that the opposition already demonstrated overwhelming victory in past elections and is simply seeking new, fair conditions to ratify that mandate with the participation of millions of displaced Venezuelans who were previously disenfranchised.
  • Economic Reconstruction: Her transition plan focuses on returning Venezuela to free-market principles, re-establishing property rights, and rebuilding vital infrastructure in the energy and minerals sectors.
  • Reuniting Families: A major priority of her political movement is to reform the country’s institutions so that the estimated 9 million Venezuelans forced into exile can safely return to a prosperous nation.

As a central figure in Venezuela’s democratic transition, she is outlining this roadmap both in her public statements and in her book, “The Freedom Manifesto,” to ensure the country establishes lasting democratic institutions.

Venezuelan opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado stated this Saturday, May 23, in Panama that the goal of her movement is to achieve a democratic transition in Venezuela through “a clean and free presidential election,” in which all Venezuelans can vote both inside and outside the country.  “We have a mandate, we have a path, we have a strategy, and today we have not only strong political leadership, but also a cohesive, determined, and organized society like no other,” she said.
