Lee had previously been arrested in May 2024 at Tocumen International Airport, when he was heading to catch a flight to Medellín, Colombia.

Former mayor Alex Lee was arrested in Operation Litus for allegedly embezzling $6 million. According to authorities, the case is related to alleged embezzlement, which would have caused economic damage to the State estimated at 6 million dollars.
