The National Police Admit Micro-Trafficking of Drugs is Expanding within Panama’s Interior

The National Police recently seized 1,251 packages of suspected drugs at a port in Colón, as part of operations to curb international drug trafficking.

The director of the National Police, Jaime Fernández, admitted that micro-trafficking is no longer a phenomenon exclusive to the capital and that the interior of the country has become a central concern for the institution.  “Personally, I am focusing heavily on the interior of the country,” said Fernández, who cited operations in Los Santos, Herrera, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro as examples of that commitment.
