Dengue Death Toll Increases in Western Panama

While regional authorities of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) in the province of West Panama are trying to contain the dengue infestation rates, a second death due to this disease has been recorded at the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital. The patient who died lived in the district of La Chorrera and had been hospitalized for several days prior.

The first death was recorded in 2022, the victim being a woman residing in the Arraiján district.  Some 12 people with this viral infection continue to remain hospitalized in this medical center, a lower number than months ago, health authorities admit.

The regional director of MINSA in Western Panama, Jorge Melo, indicated that interregional operations are being carried out in areas with the highest rates of infestation by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
