Ortega – a vulgar despot

Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ortega, not happy with the fact that the printed edition of the newspaper La Prensa of that country has been closed, sent his government officials to raid the newspaper’s headquarters yesterday, which had reported that, although it could not circulate because the customs authorities have seized the paper so that the newspaper does not reach its readers, it would keep its audience informed through its digital platform.

What Ortega is looking for is far from the absurd accusations of customs fraud and money laundering made against executives of the journalistic company. What he intends is to definitively silence an independent media, which does not lend itself to the farce that he calls democracy.

Like a vulgar despot, Ortega is desperate to maintain power and for this, he needs uninformed voters and closed media, who are not an obstacle to his insatiable appetites for power.

Daniel Ortega is not fooling anyone. He will enter the history of his country as the autocrat that he is. Sad trajectory of someone who fought another dictatorship: that of the Somoza family. But the former guerrilla has proven to be a splinter of the same tree from which those who fought so hard came: that of tyranny. LA PRENSA, Aug. 14
