Civic volunteer groups to hand out 26,000 masks and shields.
Over 26,000 masks and face shields will be distributed at the Albrook, Cinco de Mayo, San Miguelito, El Crisol, and Pedregal Metro stations between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m on Friday, August 28.
The project is organized by TodoPanamá, an agglomeration of some 70 civic volunteer groups working in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Ernesto Arias, the spokesman for the movement, said volunteers are being trained for distribution and to show people about the proper use of the masks.
“Face shields are just a supplement that should be used at the same time as masks and hand washing. Direct contact with people should also be avoided to avoid contagion, ”said Arias.
The distribution of face shields and masks will be done in public transport points because they are “especially useful in places where there is an agglomeration of people and distance cannot be maintained,” he said.
This is just one of the actions carried out by TodoPanamá, a movement that emerged from civil society to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.
Arias said that the group also provides of home care for patients with Covid-19 and provides food bags.
Currently the program has the capacity to serve 500 patients but aspires to have the capacity to serve 3,000
