Maritime Authority opens probe into Panama flagged ship disaster
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has opened an investigation into the accident of the Japanese ship Wakashio, sailing under the Panamanian flag, which remains stranded off the coast of Mauritius pouring fuel into the water and where an environmental emergency has been declared due to the size of the spill.
The Mauritian authorities, in collaboration with neighboring nations, are trying to extract the 4000 tons of fuel that the boat had in its tanks with the help of tanker ships, helicopters and the use of hoses.
Th AMP will offer all the collaboration in the investigations into the causes of the Wakashio spill and regretted that the accident occurred at a time of a global crisis due to the pandemic said Director Rafael Cigarruista, on Wednesday. August 12.
