Business chamber backs re-opening with bio security plan
Panama’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (Cciap) supports the gradual start of activities that the Government is planning, as long as they comply with the health instructions that apply to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
In a Sunday, April 26 statement the chamber underscores that the reopening would be in accordance with the scientific indicators that allow it and that work sectors commit to strict compliance with sanitary provisions.
“The opening will not be immediate, given that it will take place in the context of a globalized recession, which means financial and labor impacts, so it is urgent to prepare the way for the process,” the statement said.
It highlights that the gradual reopening in no way means lowering the guard on the health front, but that the crisis has had a significant impact on the national economy and the country needs to be prepared to resume commercial activity.
“Although the latest indicators speak of the effective way in which the country has handled the current health emergency, we cannot think that we can simply return to our pre-COVID-19 routine. For an indeterminate time we have to maintain the practices that accompany the current quarantine, which has helped us reduce the numbers of contagion and morbidity of this pandemic, “says the Chamber stressing that the gradual return must contemplate mandatory biosecurity measures in the workplace.
