Scammers move in on programs to aid the poor

 

Criminal investigations are underway into a series of rip-off scandals linked to government programs to assist Panama’s most disadvantaged people.

 Two examples under investigation by The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office are  a man for allegedly selling masks with the Santo Tomás Hospital logo and another because he had $540 in Panama Solidario plan bonds

A foreigner was arrested in Bella Vista for selling the masks and brought before a judge of guarantees. to legalize his apprehension and request the imputation for the alleged commission of crimes against the public administration. The prosecution is asking for a personal precautionary measure.

In a search raid at a residence in the Chame district, by the Public Ministry and National Police arrested a man, who had e appeared on social networks showing a large number of bonus coupons.

According to preliminary reports he  had food purchase bonds, each worth $20, totaling $540.
