Soccer cheerleader Varela heads to Russia

President Juan Carlos Varela who has become cheerleader numero uno for Panama’s  World  Cup Team will be heading for Russia on Monday, June 11 to support the boys in red in their first game against Belgium.

Panama lost 0-1 to Norway in their last warm-up game, after tieing 0-0 with Northern Ireland in their final pre-cup friendly in Panama.

Earlier they lost 0-1 to Wales who played without their Real Madrid Superstar, Gareth Bales.

Belgium’s last warm-up game was with Egypt, also playing without superstar Mohamed Salah who was injured playing for Liverpool in the Champions League Final against Real Madrid.

So Panama will have to perform the equivalent of an American Football Hail Mary pass to reward their supporters who have scraped to attend the game and the taxpayer-funded VIP’s with Varela. They are: his wife Lorena Castillo; Minister of Social Development, Alcibiades Vásquez; Vice-chancellor Luis Miguel Hincapié, and the Secretary of Goals and Presidential Spokesperson Jorge González

Varela, who has had more than a dozen photo ops with the Panama players  said:” I have been very close to the national team, “

Led by Colombian coach Hernán Darío Gómez, Panama premieres on Monday, June 18 at the Fisht Stadium in the Russian city of Sochi in a group G match at 10 a.m.  Panama time while  stay at home regular  fans find creative ways to watch the game during working hours,

Varela said he will also have an official agenda that includes a meeting with Vladimir Putin, on June 14 at 1:00 p.m.

He says he will also meet with businessmen. Including directors of Aeroflot airline.
