By Margot Thomas

MARCH, in northern climes is said to come in like  a lion. In Panama   we have  a lion sized helping of entertainment opportunities spearheaded with  British Week organized by the  British Embassy and generously spread over 10 days with a range of events catering to all tastes.

The  celebration starts on  Thursday March 9 at the Avatar Restaurant on Via Argentina with a Curry and Quiz night.

If you are wondering about the curry connection, the British during there long involvement in India introduced cricket to the sub-continent. In return they were introduced to the flavors of curry and an undying love  of the spicy food  which has given birth to thousands of Indian restaurants across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

Dinner and participation in a fun quiz contest introduced by UK ambassador Dr Ian Collard is $30.

Street parties are a  unique feature of  major British celebrations ranging from royal weddings to coronations when neighbors get together to prepare food and entertainment  on the street.  On Sunday  March 12 Panama gets the opportunity to participate in a free  Great British  Street Party  on Ave 5A in Casco Viejo  with  tea and cakes and games for kids and adults from 12-4pm.

The next day  March 13 at  City Hall on Cuba Ave  you can travel down memory lane  at Sound UK Sonido  a unique exhibition of 50 years of British music.
