Rains evacuate cinema, flood capital streets
HEAVY RAINS in Panama’s capital forced the evacuation of a cinema, and flooded many streets on Sunday, May 1.
Among the places affected by street flooding exacerbated by blocked drains were: Villa Catalina, Campo Lindbergh and Los Pueblos, in Juan Díaz;; Via Argentina and Avenida Mexico and Calle 44, in Bella Vista, and Ricardo J. Alfaro, Transístmica and the grounds of the women’s prison where a day earlier there were protests following the death of a detainee in solitary confinement.
The audience watching the movie Captain America in Room 2 of Cinépolis,in the Multiplaza mall, had to leave when the roof became detached reports, the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC).
During the incident SINAPROC director, José Donderis reported through his Twitter account that the event in Room 2 of Cinépolis was under control, and there were no injuries and the roof structure was being evaluated.
SINAPROC was also monitoring the rivers Juan Diaz, El Nance, Tapia and the Gallinaza,for the possiblity of flooding.
