Prosecutors eyeing Martinelli era airport deals
THE CORRUPTION spotlight involving members of the Zero (inner) Circle of former president Ricardo Martinelli has moved to Tocumen International Airport with two different anti-corruption prosecutors on the trail of alleged malefactors.
The offices of Tocumen, S.A., which oversees the airport are being searched as The Public Ministry investigates at least two cases of possible “irregularities”
in contracts issued by the airport administration during the previous government.
One of the investigations is headed by prosecutor Zuleyka Moore and relates to possible irregularities in contracts awarded to businesses linked to members of the inner circle.
Fellow anti-corruption prosecutor Ruth Morcillo is investigating an anonymous complaint which relates to “the inappropriate handling of contracts related to the air terminal.”
Both prosecutors have ordered inspections of the offices, to recover documents related to the contracts.
They have also requested audits of the Office of the Comptroller.
Morcillo has asked the court to combine the processes into a single file, but the decision has not yet been made.
