Fines up to $100,000 for mosquito breeding sites

FINES up to $100,000 could be levied on businesses or residents  with with mosquito breeding sites says  The director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Aurelio Rangel.

The announcement follows a call  from Health Minister, Francisco Javier Terrientes to eliminate breeding sites of the mosquito Aedes aegypti, which transmits zika, dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.

He said  that the directors of t health centers are authorized to apply sanctions ranging from $ 50 to $ 500, while regional directors can hit offenders with fines from  $501 to $ 5,000, and the Directorate General of Health can come down hard with sanctions from$5.001 to $100,000.

Rangel reported that in Panama the  area with the highest concentration of health problems extends from Juan Diaz to the border with the district of Chepo, due to the conditions in which they live.
