Child pornography increasing in Panama

CHILD  pornography  cases in  Panama are on the rise with over 50  recent cases confirmed in reports from  Washington, United States say   the First and Sixth prosecutors specialized in crimes against sexual freedom and integrity.

In 2015, there were  98 reports, while in 2014 there were only 26 complaints, according to the Human Rights Report of Panama.

Sixth circuit Prosecutor Mildred Gonzalez,  warned that the child pornography criminal phenomenon is  greater because  “the aggressor is hidden  behind the internet”

Most cases are revealed by Interpol alerts, as cyber patrols detects persons practicing and then then traces them through their computer IP.

She  said that those involved  practice what is known as grooming, a behavior in which the adult masquerading as a child, latches on to a child through in social networks They  then get  pictures of children in suggestive poses and send them to pornographic sites.

The Penal Code provides prison terms between 5 and 10 years for those who commit the crime of child pornography. Sanctions may increase, according to the characteristics of each case. In 2014, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime warned of the rise of child pornography in the world.
