Panama zika virus cases reach 53
THREE NEW cases of the zica virus have been detected in Panama’s Guna Yala region, bringing the total number of infected people to 53.
During a Ministry of Health (MoH) press conference, it was reported that prevention information will be stepped up.
Meanwhile the Cabinet Council will assess this week, measures to fight the virus and a request for extra funds will be presented to increase the fight against the Aedes aegypti mosquito
Since February 8, the MoH has operated an “epidemiological fence” in the area of Pacora to retain and examine persons heading to the capital city and displaying flu symptoms. The tests seek to determine if they have zika, chikungunya or dengue.
