OFF THE CUFF: improved garbage pick up for Casco Viejo
CASCO VIEJO, a World Heritage Center,and a tourist magnet, is going to get improved twice-daily garbage collection according to The Urban and Household Authority (AAUD) and the Office of Casco Antiguo (OCA).
They have announced the placement of 36 700-liter collection tanks. Small trucks will be used for picking up garbage, so as not to affect the historical structures . Fernando Diaz, deputy director of OCA, said the trucks would enter the area twice a day. AAUD secretary, Gabriel Church, said that a special team would be appointed for the old city.
In the past civic minded residents, tired of waiting for municipal support have used decorated oil drums for garbage collection
