Cruise ships get LED lights to cut CO2 emissions
HOW MANY bulbs does it take to light a cruise boat? Multiply the figure you’ve guessed by 10 and see how it compares with the 300,000 on the recently relighted boats of Costa Cruises.
Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), has completed the renovation of lighting the 10 vacation boats of the leading European cruise company,.
More than 300,000 lights were installed to allow 60% reduction in energy used to power the lighting of each boat.
The electricity on board the ships is powered exclusively by diesel engines, and this renewal in the lighting of the 10 vessels allows a total annual savings of 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Switching to energy efficient LED technology is the latest toward the goal of Costa Cruises to cut their CO2 emissions, according to the targets set in its latest Sustainability Report published in 2014 .
