Corrupt judges simply resign no legal procedures

THE RESIGNATIONS of at least six circuit judges and four high court judges from their posts for their alleged involvement in administrative irregularities or acts of corruption has sent a warning signal to the public says a citizens' body.

Magaly Castillo, executive director of Citizens Alliance for Justice, through a statement released Wednesday, May 29 said that "what is happening in the judiciary is a very irregular situation that lends itself to a lot of manipulation of justice".

She warned that the cleansing that is taking place in this state organ is unusual in terms of procedure: it should not simply be to remove someone from a position and replace him with another.
“What should happen is the rule of law,” she said, which is to open disciplinary or criminal proceedings against judges and officials that are corrupt and follow through with due process.
Sh e also questioned the fact that interim replacements are being appointed without competition, since there is no judiciary procedure in effect at this time.

The Judicial Career Law and the Court of Integrity and Transparency Index has been pending since 2009.
