Panama asylum seeker charged in Colombia

A former Colombian director of intelligence services,  given asylum  in Panama by President Ricardo Martinelli,  has been charged with "embezzlement  and falsifying public documents."

The charges against Maria del Pilar Hurtado, were placed before Colombia's Supreme Court Thursday by the Attorney General.

 Also charged was Bernardo Moreno former secretary of the Presidency , in a prosecution for illegal wiretapping.
 The two senior members of the government of Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) who has been  linked to the process, were charged by the attorney general for having allegedly engaged in "conspiracy, abuse of public office and unlawful communications violation. "
Morales said Hurtado, former director of the Administrative Security Department (DAS, state intelligence), has been exiled in Panama since  November 2010

Moreno says  Hurtado was involved in the process of illegal wiretapping of judges, opposition politicians, human rights defenders and journalists.
At Thursday’s hearing, the defense lawyer asked the Court for six months to review the prosecution evidence , but the court gave him 15 days.
The prosecutor said that he will call two more witnesses:  former paramilitary leaders Diego Fernando Murillo  alias Don Berna, and Juan Carlos Sierra aka The Tuso.
Both paramilitaries are accused of drug trafficking and were extradited to the United States in 2008.
