Corrupt employees axed from Immigration Service
Over 40 officials have been purged from the National Immigration Service (NMS) after the creation of a Department of Internal Affairs by the new director.
Javier Carrillo, a lawyer and former police commissioner took over the helm of the troubled institution , when Maria Cristina Gonzalez, resigned after a series of public complaints about alleged corruption.
The firings over two and a half months covered “irregularities” in the performance of many, including alleged acts of internal corruption.
At least seven complaints have been referred to the public prosecutor prosecutor.
That includes officials denounced for engaging in as forgery and collecting bribes.
Carillo urged citizens to denounce illegal acts by officials of the institution , for which there is now an internal research department.
Carrillo established a Department of Internal Affairs, manned by police officers on leave, to oversee personnel actions and collect user complaints.
