Dream team not in place –Mayor asks for more time
From the sidelines
With public attention and the media focused on the violent confrontations in Bocas del Toro, and the national strike, the not unsubstantial figure of Panama’s mayor has managed to drop out sight.
But as the smoke has parted, he has re-appeared and, in his own inimitable way continues to bumble along.
The capital’s mayor, Bosco Vallarino announced yesterday he needs more time to form his new dream team.
On July 2, his worship, instead of resigning as urged by the country’s president, vice president, his party leaders, and most of the population, he came up with plan "B" to rescue the sinking mayoralty ship. He announced the enforced resignation of his entire management team and promised that in two weeks it would be renewed.
But, says La Prensa to date little has advanced. For now, the only thing he said he has done was to hold a meeting with Deputy Jose Isabel Blandon to ask him to become his secretary general.
During a ceremony at the Chinese Cultural Center Panama, the mayor said he is "studying" several curricula, to integrate the best people to form his new team.
"Blandon has not confirmed if he wants to be my secretary general.” said his worshipful. He is evaluating potential candidates and wants fast-working people, to head the capital city.
Questioned on the expiry of his self proclaimed target date he said he first had to probe to find the right people. "I think we can wait a little longer,"
Could it be that not too many resumés are piling up on the mayor’s desk?
Deputy Blandon has confirmed meetings with Vallarino “but I have not decided," he said.
Pinning a pennant to the masthead of a sinking ship might not be the best move for an aspiring politician.
Meanwhile how are the departing team wording their resumés to explain their firings?.
