Gun battle on Cinta Costera

The sort of shoot-em up event that for most is restricted to the movie screens came to life on the Cinta Costera  on Tuesday (April 20) afternoon.

A gun battle between rival gangs , near the Núñez de Balboa,statue left three people injured.

In the movies they don’t show what happens to random bullets. One passing Panamanian can give you the answer. One of the injured, was a passenger in a passing bus.

The others were in a car that had at least seven bullet holes on the driver’s side and in the windshield. After the gun battle it sped off the Cinta Costera and turned back along Avenida Balboa before pulling to a stop after littering the road with empty magnum shells ..
One of the injured occupants was Ruben Jorge Carmago Clarke, alias Cholo Chorillo. All the injured were taken to St Thomas Hospital.
One side of Balboa was closed, starting at the Miramar hotel and finishing near the Yacht Club tower, scene of recent Suntrac demonstrations. Police investigations lasted most of the afternoon causing long traffic delays..

Preliminary reports of the National Police indicated that the shooting was caused by alleged confrontations between rival gangs.

One of the wounded, Javier Antonio Alvarado, 41 who had no connection with the battle was, traveling on bus route-Don Bosco Hall when a stray bullet hit him in the back.
