Second frontline nurse dies from coronavirus

Elvia Muñoz, 54, who died on Thursday, August 20 was the second nurse this week to fall victim to the COVID-19 virus.

She worked at the Bethania, Alejandro de la Guardia Polyclinic.

Ana Reyes de Serrano, president of The National Association of Nurses (ANEP) said that Muñoz had spent weeks in the modular hospital, and they had been informed that she was improving.

 A day earlier ANEP had reported the death of Josefina Zurita de Justiniani, the head of the emergency room at the Manuel María Valdez Polyclinic, located in the San Miguelito district.

Eusebia Calderón de Copete, national head of Nursing at the Ministry of Health, remains at the Santo Tomás Hospital, due to Covid-19 and is reported to be stable.

Reyes de Serrano reported that at last count  409 nurses and technicians were infected with the virus asked that those on the frontline be provided with more protective equipment and of better quality.
