Frontline healthcare professionals get part of back pay

The Panama  Ministry of Health (Minsa) began to dole out  part of the money owed to doctors, nurses and health professionals in the country on Friday. August 28.

The payment followed street protests by doctors, nurses and technicians demanding payment of back wages and quality  protective equipment,

Assembly Budget Committee approves transfer of $ 16.3 million to Minsa; payments will only be until August 30

The Budget Committee of the National Assembly approved a transfer of $16.3 million items to the Minsa for the payment of medical personnel, expired terms, supplies and reagents for the Gorgas Memorial Institute.

With this transfer, salaries can only be paid until August 30, which means that the Minsa will have to go again to ask for  funds to pay salaries due on September 15/

Health Minister  Luis Francisco Sucre, said that the Minsa  entity will enforce the Government’s commitment to the personnel who are on the front line of the fight against Covid-19 .
