Alleged Embezzlement at AIG With Three People Arrested.

An operation carried out by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police culminated in the arrest of an official and a former official of the National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG), investigated for the alleged commission of the crime of embezzlement for $964,620.  In the operations, carried out in Villa Lucre, Betania and Panama Oeste, a private individual was also apprehended who was allegedly involved in the process of acquiring a Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery System intended for public institutions.  The investigation began based on an audit report from the Comptroller General of the Republic that detected irregularities in the system acquisition process. 

During the proceedings, the authorities located documents and evidence that will be evaluated by the Prosecutor’s Office as part of the investigation.  The investigations by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office determined that the acquisition of the equipment was carried out without complying with the technical specifications required by the various public entities that would use the system.  It was reported that the former AIG official was currently working at the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot).  The three detainees will be brought before a judge on Wednesday for the formal charging and the application of precautionary measures.
