New covid infections continue to fall
In the first nine days of September, figures released by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) show a continuing decline in new cases of Covid-19 with 3,981 reported.
The number of cases shows a daily average of 442, a major decrease from the August daily average of 689. On 31 days in August 2021, 21,382 infections were reported.
So far in September, there have only been two days with at least 500 cases; on September 1 there were 670 and on September 5 with 563.
This epidemiological behavior is also being reflected in the number of active cases.
Until the report issued by the Minsa on Wednesday, Panama had 5,490 people with the virus, 1,989 less than those reported on August 31, there were 7,479 active cases.
The epidemiologists of the country have highlighted that an important factor that is contributing to this decrease in cases is the vaccination process.
The Expanded Immunization Program of the Minsa reported Wednesday that Panama reached a total of 583, 878 vaccines applied throughout the national territory.
Health Minister Luis Francisco Sucre, announced that already 50% of the population has received two doses against the virus.
