A 21-year-old man allegedly linked to the fatal traffic accident that occurred this Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the Costa Arriba sector, Colón province, was captured, the National Police reported. The suspect faces charges of alleged manslaughter for the traffic incident in which two active members of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) lost their lives instantly. The arrest operation was carried out in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will take charge of the corresponding proceedings to clarify the dynamics of the event and determine the definitive criminal responsibilities.
Posthumous Promotion and Institutional Mourning.
The suspect’s capture adds to the tragic day experienced in the Atlantic region after the victims were formally identified. The deceased officers belonged to the Special Motorized Service and were performing assigned duties in the Playa Chiquita area at the time of the crash. They are posthumously Sergeant First Class Miguel A. Santamaría S. and Corporal First Class Martín E. Arias B. In recognition of their dedication to service, the Senan decreed their immediate posthumous promotion. “The Naval Air family deeply regrets the irreparable loss of our units… leaving an immense void in our institution and in the heart of the nation,” the institution stated in an official pronouncement.
