A Warning for Rain and Storms has been Issued for All of Panama Until Monday.
The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued a prevention notice for significant rains and storms that covers the entire national territory and maritime zones. The notice went into effect at 3:00 am on Friday, August 28, and will remain in effect until 11:59 pm on Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to the forecast of the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), the country is registering an increase in atmospheric instability associated with the remnants of Tropical Wave No. 39 and the activation of low pressure systems related to the passage of other tropical waves.
Scattered thunderstorms of varying intensity are expected over the next few days, some of them severe, accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and frequent periods of rain. These conditions could lead to significant rainfall accumulations. The scenario also increases the risk of flooding, landslides, and flash floods, mainly in vulnerable areas.
Given the expected conditions, authorities recommend avoiding crossing rivers, streams, and flooded areas during heavy rains. They also urge people to stay away from trees, unstable structures, and objects that could fall or be blown away by the wind. During thunderstorms, it is advisable to avoid open spaces, beaches, rivers, and other bodies of water. Sinaproc reported that it will continue monitoring weather conditions and reminded the public that, in case of an emergency, they can call 911.
