Fights in Alanje Panama Put Nightclubs Under Scrutiny

The cases of fights and brawls in the district of Alanje, province of Chiriquí, continue to generate concern among residents, who say that more surveillance is needed from the authorities, especially in recreational areas.  The most recent incident occurred last Sunday, July 12, at El Tucaso bar, located in the area known as Mostrenco, where a young woman was injured after being hit in the face with a bottle during a fight. She was taken to a hospital, where she received nine stitches for her injury.  In response to this and other incidents of fighting in the region, the mayor of Alanje, Doris Anays Atencio pictured below, stated that “although these incidents are not frequent in the district, we maintain communication with security authorities to monitor all recreational areas, especially on weekends.” 

Regarding the fight that occurred last weekend, the mayor explained: “The first thing we did was request a police report so we could proceed with the appropriate sanctions, since the person managing the establishment bears responsibility. This establishment has a valid license and registration through the Ministry of Commerce and Industries.”  Meanwhile, a resident of the Canta Gallo district, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that such events occur frequently, and that due to a lack of competent police units, they are not addressed with the necessary diligence.  In the district of Alanje there are currently at least 29 establishments that sell alcoholic beverages
