They Will Bid her a Final Farewell While the Trigger for her Departure Could Take Another Turn: Marie Claire González Atencio

Family and friends will say goodbye this Friday to the Panamanian influencer and businesswoman.

Marie Claire González Atencio, the renowned 39-year-old businesswoman, writer, speaker, and influencer whose death shocked the country and transcended borders, will be laid to rest this Friday, when family and friends will gather to pay tribute to her during her funeral services.  González Atencio, highlighted by Forbes as one of the most powerful women in Central America due to her technological leadership and her staunch defense of female empowerment, has received condolences from various institutions, including the Embassy of Israel as written below:

We are deeply devastated by the news of the tragic death of Marie Claire González, CEO of the Panamanian tech company Xplor.  Marie Claire was a distinguished participant of the 32nd International Women Leaders Conference in Israel, hosted by MASHAV and the Golda Meir MASHAV Carmel Training Center (MCTC).  We had the privilege of knowing Marie Claire as a high-level professional, a successful manager, and a true pioneer in the technology field. She was a prominent advocate for women’s rights, a gifted speaker, and a figure of great influence and leadership.

Her death is a profound loss for all of us.  MASHAV, through MCTC, is deeply committed to promoting capacity-building in women’s leadership, gender equality, women’s empowerment, and combating gender-based violence. The tragic death of Marie Claire is a painful reminder of just how much effort and dedication is still required from all of us, as a global society, to make progress in these critical areas.  Our most heartfelt condolences go out to her family, her children, and all her loved ones during this difficult time.  May her memory be a blessing.

Marie Claire González Atencio died by apparent suicide following a long battle with mental health issues, which she largely attributed to severe psychological abuse and domestic violence from an ex-partner. The 39-year-old Panamanian entrepreneur and influencer passed away on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a scheduled letter and social media posts where she detailed her suffering.  Her passing generated widespread public shock, particularly because it occurred just weeks after she spoke out openly about her experiences with an ex-partner who she said had humiliated and manipulated her. In her final message, she expressed deep emotional exhaustion, apologized to her children, and wrote, “No me admiren, les fallé”.   The exact forensic and official circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
