The Education Regional Director in Bocas del Toro Died in a Serious Traffic Accident
Anaica Lezcano, regional director of the Ministry of Education in Bocas del Toro, died in a serious traffic accident while traveling with other teachers.
The Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) lamented this Sunday the death of the regional director of Education of Bocas del Toro, Anaica Lezcano pictured below, after a spectacular traffic accident registered in the Loma La Estrella sector, on the road that connects Almirante with Chiriquí Grande. According to preliminary reports, supervisor Lorenza de Ríos and teacher Benigno Moreno were also traveling in the vehicle. They were seriously injured and taken to Almirante Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention. “With deep sorrow we mourn the passing of the Regional Director of Education of Bocas del Toro, Anaica Lezcano,” the institution stated.

The Ministry of Education (Meduca) also highlighted the official’s professional legacy, emphasizing her commitment to the Panamanian education system. “Her dedication to education, her vocation for service, and her valuable contribution to strengthening the education system will leave an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing her and working alongside her,” the Ministry stated in its message. Although the details of the incident have not yet been confirmed, unofficial reports indicate that the vehicle carrying the educators collided with a semi-trailer truck. The area’s weather conditions, which have left the streets wet, may have contributed to the crash.
