The plan includes financial compensation, full replacement of homes, income support during the resettlement transition, and productive measures for families impacted by the Indio River reservoir project.
Families resettled due to the construction of the multipurpose reservoir project in the Indio River basin will receive direct economic compensation, income support, and new housing, according to the Compensation Framework designed and published by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). Karina Vergara, socio-environmental manager for the Indio River reservoir project, added that families participating in the productive restoration programs will receive this financial incentive. “There will be a payment of $1,085 per year for families participating in the livelihood restoration programs,” she stated in an interview with news media.
