27 new monkeypox cases lifts total to 216
The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reports that, during the week of March 15 to 29, there were 27 new cases of monkeypox bringing the accumulated cases in the country to 216.
According to the Minsa, 27 patients are active s (24 in home isolation and 3 in isolation in health facilities), while 189 ended their isolation, without major setbacks.
Of the accumulated cases, 214 men and two women have tested positive.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that maintaining healthy lifestyles and avoiding contact with people who carry the virus is vital to counteract the spread of this disease.
The health regions with confirmed cases are the metropolitan region with 129 cases; West Panama, with 30 cases; San Miguelito and Panamá Norte, with 21 cases; Chiriquí, with five cases; Los Santos and Veraguas, with three cases; East Panama and Bocas del Toro, both regions with two confirmed.
The Expanded Immunization Program reports that, as of March 27, 854 doses of the monkeypox vaccine have been applied, with 709 first doses and 145 second doses.
Since May 24, Panama has maintained a health alert throughout the country and epidemiological surveillance has been redoubled in all health regions and all points of entry into the national territory.
Panama detected its first case of monkeypox on July 5, 2022.
