Former President Ricardo Martinelli denounced through his social media that former Vice President José Gabriel Carrizo and former President Laurentino Cortizo are seeking to be sworn in to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) in order to “evade justice”.  Martinelli, who also heads the Realizando Metas (RM) party, stated that both politicians are seeking protection within the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) by influencing the appointment of magistrates. “They believe they have a better chance because they appointed a large number of magistrates,” Martinelli said in his statement.

The former president party who support this action, stressing that it is time for Carrizo and Cortizo to answer to justice for their actions.  In a parallel context, the Comptroller General of the Republic yesterday ordered the seizure of assets and bank accounts of José Gabriel “Gaby” Carrizo, linked to investigations for unjustified enrichment.  According to reports, properties, vehicles and bank funds have been seized, as part of a judicial process that also investigates Carrizo for alleged embezzlement and other charges related to the irregular use of public resources during his tenure as vice president (2019-2024).
