5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Closes Schools in Chiriqui Province Tuesday

It is a priority for school authorities to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and administrative staff at educational institutions following a strong earthquake.  The Ministry of Education (Meduca) reported that classes will remain suspended Tuesday July 9, in public and private educational centers in the province of Chiriquí and areas of the Ngäbe Buglé region, following a 5.3-magnitude earthquake that caused some damage to various structures, especially in La Concepción, Bugaba district, early Monday, July 8.  The Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama placed the official magnitude of the earthquake at 5.3, located south of Concepción Bugaba, Chiriquí  and near the border area of ​​Panama with Costa Rica.
