El Nio failed to dampen spirits at French national celebrations in Panama

France celebrated Quatorze Juillet, (July 14) the French national holiday marking the storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789 , in the midst of  a Europe-wide heat wave. 

But in Panama the effects of El Niño tried to spoil the fun.
Members of the French community and Panamanian guests of the French ambassador, Hugues Goisbault, were gathered in the Plaza Francia in Casco Viejo , sampling French vintage wines and hors d’oeuvres listening to the national orchestra on the steps Institute of Culture and visiting the elegant stands of some world famed beauty products when some of that extra rainfall that the bad weather boy had predicted set in.
Plan B came into effect and everyone moved inside the Institute to finish off the snacks hear the speeches from the French Ambassador and Panama’s Vice President Juan Carlos Varela, and join in the singing of Panama’s National hymn, the European anthem and the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, before raising champagne glasses and echoing Vive La France. So, in spite of El Niño, a good time was had by all
Earlier in the day flowers were laid at the French Cemetery in Paraíso and at the monument to the workers on the building of French Canal, that preceded the American construction.
