2012 A very good year for Panama movie fans

By Ingrid Jones

Frank Sinatra crooning  “ A Very Good Year”  might be a good introduction to Leap Year offerings for Panama movie fans.

The big one of course is our very own International Film Festival   (IFF) coming in April, a rush of  Oscar nominated movies in local cinemas  and free screenings  of movies from the US and French embassies.

On Monday, February 27,   in Sanborns restaurant  in MultiPlaza, the French embassy will present Dans La Vie a comedy  directed by  Phillipe Faucon. It’s in French with Spanish subtitles.

The movie centers around Esther a Jewish invalid who needs constant attention, but her ill temper drives away all her care givers. Finally, in despair.  her son Elie turns to Halima, a practicing Muslim. The show starts at 7 pm  with limited seating, so early arrival is indicated, which will give you some time to do some window (or real) shopping in those nearby boutiques with all those famed  French brand names.

Tuesday, February 28, as I have previously reported, is  a large screen presentation of two episodes of the iconic West Wing  TV series, courtesy of the US embassy.

The location is the Canal Museum in Cathedral Plaza, Casco Viejo. Start time 7 pm, but the doors open at 6.15 with cookies and soda.  Its another freebie with limited seating, so check in early and munch on the cookies.

Check out our latest updates on IFF. It’s going to be a cornucopia of must-see movies.
