Sponsors rally to Panama carols festival

PANAMA’S three leading daily newspapers, La Prensa, La Estrella and El Siglo, have joined  Newsroom, The Visitor, and local businesses, as sponsors of the third annual  Carols by Candlelight/Luces de Navidad festival.

The  two-and- half hours event, on Saturday December 7  will be raising  funds for Santo Tomas Hospital and the Hogar Malambo orphanage It will be held this year at Mirador del Pacifico on the Cinta Costera and will involve seven choirs, a quartet, and two soloists.

Other sponsors include : INAC, City Hall, the MoP Copa Airlines, Ducruet Insurance, The Canadian Embassy,  King’s College, Knightsbridge Schools International, Panama Pacifico and the U.S. Embassy.

After each performance, the audience is encouraged to join in the singing of a carol, the words of which are in a free illustrated song book, which will be available in outlets across Panama city and environs, starting the week of October 28.

Among the choirs will be the Thames Centre Community Choir from London, Ontario, Canada which will premier a new carol, The Shepherds and the Mejorana,  the music and words written  specially for the event by Canadian composer Beverly Lewis.

The concert is free, but there are a limited number of  reserved  seats available at $20 and $15, which includes an LED candle.

If you plan to stand, or bring a stool, you can obtain LED souvenir candles for $5 or  $10 The CanadaPLUS Club which is organizing the event, is also suggesting that citizens consider donating candles to be distributed by church and community groups to less fortunate members of the community.

CANDLELIGHT PARADE
A  children's candlelight parade led by bands will precede the event, and the organizers will welcome participants in the parade, and/or volunteers  to act as parade marshals.

Orders for candles or reservations costing $40 or more will be delivered to homes or offices  in Panama City.
