An unsustainable government payroll

The bulky payroll of the State continues to be worrisome. Although there is a recovery of the economy and a few temporary contracts have fallen – which total less than $1 million – the Government continues to allocate exorbitant amounts to pay for a payroll that during the pandemic had to be financed by contracting debt. The Government has been highly irresponsible, not only with the issue of undeserved appointments but also in the amount allocated to pay for services that in many cases are non-existent. It is about fulfilling clientelistic promises more than covering the needs of the State. There are hundreds of millions that could be used in investments –and in generating new sources of employment– instead of wasting it on expenses that have no justification, such as, for example, the waste of what the Assembly does or the expenses –which we still do not know– of “parallel decentralization”. It is evident that the Government owes us explanations, and this includes the comptroller, who has authorized these expenses, surely aware of the unjustified need for him. The issue of large payrolls and budgets should be the subject of debate among the presidential candidates, since this situation is by no means sustainable. – LA PRENSA, Jul. 26.
