Cracks in the Maritinelli alliance?
The first public signs of cracks in the political alliance that forms the current government appeared this week with leading members of the Panameñista Party claiming an “internal crisis”.
Party member Alejandro Posse, who said members are "disappointed" because they feel that their principles and ideals are not reflected in the administration of the Ricardo Martinelli government.
Posse said that neither the party Board nor the party president, Juan Carlos Varela, who is Vice president and Chancellor of the Republic, have produced efforts to reflect a Panameñista presence in the government and called for a renewal of the party directorate and changes in domestic statutes.
The Vice President Varela said later that the principles and ideals of Party are being implemented in the government of Ricardo Martinelli.
Several prominent members of the party attended a recent demonstration called to protest the actions of the Martinelli Government, centralizing poer and the manner of the suspension of the Attorney General, Ana Matilde Gomez.
