American woman found dead in Paitilla apartment

Police are investigating the death of an American woman found in a pool of blood inside her Paitilla apartment .

The woman was identified as Denise Hinner, 48, who has been in Panama for three years and had received a blows to the head. 

The victim had two wounds: one in the right upper eyelid and one on the left ear, said a source of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.

 A friend told police that she went to meet her friend at her apartment  on Via Italia at 7.05 a.m. on Friday. She rang the apartment bell several times and called on her cell phone but received no reply.

She decided to open the door, and found her dead in a pool of blood in the middle of the room.

Authorities are investigating the cause of death. 
The head of the Directorate of Judicial Research Javier Carrillo said it has not been determined if the death was accidental or a homicide.
