USA Charity auction scores a double success

The USA charity auction at the City Club last week (April 21) raised over $11,000 during an evening both socially and philanthropically successful.
When expenses were factored in it still left a handsome net profit of over $8,500.
The proceeds will be divided between the USA Caravana Committee and the American Society for providing support to schools and donating scholarships.
Caravana de Asistienca Social is the body that organizers one of the big annual crowd pleasers at ATLAPA, when embassy and consulate wives staff, and supporters open stands for a day to provide a gourmet sampling of national dishes.
The two groups were also supported by the American Chamber of Commerce, and US Embassy staff provided volunteer service, for an action and fun packed evening.
Before the live auction, bidders were entertained by male soprano Fernando Bustos,
Auctioneer Steve Walling provided entertainment while using his skills to get people to open their wallets, and there were bargains a plenty.
A Panamonte Inn and Spa weekend went for $350, and two plane tickets and two nights for two at the Contradora Inn was a plum at $300. A two-night weekend and spa for two, was also snapped up for $300. There were many other additional prizes and rewards, including a draw for two American airline tickets to and from any point in the United States. For $15 including good company, gossip, wine and tasty snacks, it was the bargain social event of the week, and charity will benefit. For more pictures click here.
