Diablos rojos hanging on as Metro bids delayed
From the Sidelines
It seems that the polluting and accident prone Diablos Rojos will be around longer than anyone hoped or predicted.
Earlier in the year President Martinelli had been optimistically predicting new Metro buses by October.
Then the companies bidding for contracts asked for more time, and the country was spared the embarrassment of another debacle that it faced in the closing months of the previous administration.
Yesterday (April 29) the Government announced the moving of the date for the submission of proposals for the new transport system.
The new date for the submission of documents of the consortia involved will be on May 26
According to Minister of the Presidency, Jimmy Papadimitriu, some companies sought to amend the statement of objections.
Papadimitriu said that to date only two consortia have expressed interest in the new transport system. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of enthusiasm out there. What’s the problem?
When the selection is made, sometime in June, that would give the companies four months to produce and deliver buses by October
It looks as if Santa will still be riding around in worn out polluters.
