Investigation over missing sculptures to continue
An appeal for annulment of an investigation of Giro Mingthoy, former manager of Parque Omar has been rejected.
Mingthoy is being investigated by prosecutor Ramses Barrera, for the alleged commission of an offense against public administration at the expense of the Ministry of the Presidency.
The case concerns the investigation into the disappearance of a 42-piece sculpture valued at over $1.5 million. The bronze pieces were stored in Parque Omar and disappeared.
Rumors swirled around the city about the location and fate of the missing art work, with speculation that some pieces were in the homes of prominent citizens and theories that the bronze had been sold for scrap. The big question was how such an extensive collection under police guard coujld have disappeared undetected.
Judge Wilfredo Saenz, said that the prosecution has evidence supporting the investigation.
According to Saenz, the record shows the possibility of the commission of an offense and there is circumstantial evidence, including cited witness statements
The former official, close associate of the former first lady and once the head of the much criticized Carnival organization said she will attend the inquiry, for which no date has been set.
"I will comply with the investigation to see if this absurd issue is finally over," he said.
Giro felt that the process against her was an injustice, as it now appears that they should be looking " up and down stairs to see what others were doing," referring to agents of the Institutional Protection Service (SPI) that guarded the park.
