Bocas del Toro multiple murder suspects caught in Nicaragua
A fugitive couple suspected of killing up to seven people in Bocas del Toro, Panama, have been arrested in Nicaragua, attempting to cross a river from Costa Rica.
Costa Rican authorities learned that the couple had rented a house in Santa Cruz de Turrialba and had told the owners that they had the intention of buying, using the same method they had apparently followed in Panama.
Panamanian authorities had alerted Costa Rican police that the fugitive couple could be in Costa Rica after committing various murders in Bocas del Toro. At first the suspects were believed to be European nationals, but now police believe them to be Americans, using stolen and fake U.S. id.
William Adolfo Cortez and his wife, Jeana Seana, are accused of killing at least two people and as many as seven, while living in Bocas del Toro, were the subject of an intense operation by in Costa Rica. And Panama
According to the owners of a house in Costa Rica the couple had rented with the expressed intention of buying.
After police were alerted they found that the couple had already abandoned the house, but kept a vigil in case they returned.
The suspects were caught in an area known as "Tambor".
It was reported they were close to the a police post, where they were to have crossed into Nicaragua.
Cortez, aka "Wild Bill", commandeered a boat and the couple fled into the river, were they were stopped by the Nicaraguan army personnel with machine guns at the ready.
Costa Rican officials say that the couple did not offer resistance and were taken to the Boca de Sarapiquí army post and werewaiting for Nicaraguan police to take them into custody and the arrival of Costa Rican and Panamanian authorities.
