Panama Metro drivers accept pay offer
Panama’s bus drivers, faced with rising criticism over their pay demands have decided to accept the $580 monthly starting salary for operating the new Metro system.
The service is scheduled to start on Corridor Sur, on December 18.
Their union said that although the salary did not meet expectations union, it was accepted for the sake of getting the system up and running.
He said this should help dispel the notion that drivers have blocked improvements to the public transportation system, and serve as evidence that they are willing to compromise for the benefit of the country.
There are more than 1,000 drivers in training to drive the new buses and 288 will be hired immediately
