Taxi drivers fighting tinted windows ban
The proposed elimination of the use of tinted windows on Panama’s public transport vehicles is threatened with a legal challenge by taxi drivers.
The Minister of Government, Roxana Mendez, led the initiative saying that it would help lower crime rates,
But Rafael Reyes general secretary of the national union of taxi drivers denies that it would reduce crime and said that for some drivers, the tinted windows were a necessity as many suffer from skin cancer and visual impairments due to the glare of the sun.
Public transportation unions plan to meet with their lawyers to review the proposal And if necessary will go to court to fight the law said Reyes.
