Environmental side effects of Metro trains
Panama’s 13.7 km Metro train system while improving transportation in the city will also have environmental side effects.
Some of the changes identified by an environmental impact study are likely to be increased soil erosion, changes in surface and groundwater flow and a temporary increase in the emission, noise and vibration levels will be side effects
The Metro Secretariat proposes stabilizing and protecting slopes, controlling the infiltration of rainwater into excavations, executing a plan of revegetation, establishing a drainage network and implementing a traffic management plan.
A public forum on the project will be held on Dec. 15.
Comments or suggestions can be addressed to the environmental authority ANAM until Dec. 28.
